Senior Engineer – Electrical PrimaryResponsibilities:TECHNICALKnows how to perform complex engineering analyses and develop complex deliverables within disciplineApplies standard engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimatingUnderstands standard contract requirements and scope as they relate to discipline workKnows technical issues related to discipline and how to discuss with third parties (customer, suppliers, and regulators)Knows how to coordinate technical issues within discipline, with other disciplines, and with engineering staffUnderstands roles played by other departments on projectsFamiliar with methods of procurement, including bid and evaluation processKnows electrical equipment and materialKnowledgeable in the overall work requirements outside of the discipline.Experienced with leading a group of engineers and/or designers within the disciplineIn-depth knowledge of specific standardsFamiliar with all WSP design guides and standards relevant to disciplineUnderstands industry Norms and proceduresCapable of analyzing and understanding Client’s requirements and standards.Ability to revise existing standardsUnderstands EDP’s (Engineering Design Procedure) and their application on projects Key Competencies / SkillsReviews and leads the production of higher-tier Drawings, Reports and Calculations for all primary engineering tasks/deliverablesReviews Single Line diagrams for the HV Power systemReviews specifications/data sheets for main power electrical equipment in the substations (AIS, GIS & hybrid)Performs/Reviews Earthing System calculation using CEDEX software Pkg.Performs/Reviews Lightning Protection calculation using SES Shield software Pkg.Reviews and provide guidance related to the EMC and its effects on substations various equipmentCapability to review and coordinates work with BIM 3D ModelersReviews different substation layoutsPerforms/Reviews Insulation Coordination, Partial Discharge Corona studiesPerforms/Reviews AIS Bus Bar sizing Calculations taking into consideration Ampacity, Short Circuit Forces, Thermal effect of Short CircuitKnowledgeable with the main concepts of OHL (Sag and Tension, sizing, components used for design, surge arresters, civil aspects…etc.)Leads technical discussions with customer and supplierReviews and coordinates documents from other disciplines, customer and outside agenciesCoordinates reviews with other disciplines and departmentsPrepares and presents reports for formal studiesCapability of activities management and milestones based on scope of work descriptionCapability of tracking the schedule of activitiesCapability of presenting the results to different parties and highlighting the key issues to the Client/WSPLarge project field assignment Desired SkillsKeep the WSP Lead Engineer, Project Manager regularly informed of technical activities, staffing, budgets and schedulesExplain reasons for actions taken to the work groupBe approachable to members of the teamMaintain harmony and a productive work atmosphere by being open about work activities and project statusAbility to negotiate effectively with internal and external clientsHas competence and confidence to make technical presentationsLead the work effort by defining the tasks and participating in their executionSupport the work with the appropriate staff and tools to complete the taskCommitted to supporting the group, superiors, subordinates, and colleagues professionally and personallyDeliver superior quality designs and deliverables that meet the technical, schedule and budget requirementsLead subordinates in the continuous improvement in design and project executionContinuously seeks new efficient ways to perform tasks and to deliver quality workHas a strong desire to develop new technical capabilityParticipate in activities to stay abreast of the latest technologyContinuously seeks new and efficient ways to perform tasks and to deliver high quality workPromotes team behaviour by keeping all informed about the technical and people developments in the work groupExhibit facilitation skills for problem solving by enlisting the support of the entire groupLead and coach design teamsTrain and develop new team in new processes and proceduresImproves teamwork by sharing information and knowledge without reservationAssigns and delegates tasks to qualified personsMakes timely decisions after obtaining input from others to maintain team progressRecognizes contributions from othersLive the Leadership Covenants QualificationsRecognized degree in engineering or technical field from an accredited college or university and specialized courses in Electrical discipline plus applicable practical work experience.
