Backend Software Engineer Position

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to lead the design and implementation of our scalable web/mobile application's backend architecture. This role demands expertise with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB for building high-performance backend solutions.

  • This involves owning the entire backend architecture from planning to deployment.
  • You will develop user authentication and authorization (JWT, OTP-based login, session management) as well as implement logic, user discovery algorithms, and preference-based filters.
  • Your responsibilities include building chat and messaging systems with Firebase for real-time messaging and integrating Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications on iOS and Android.
  • You will design and manage MongoDB schema optimized for matchmaking and chat use cases.
  • You must ensure secure tokenized API access using industry best practices (HTTPS, role-based access).
  • You will handle media uploads securely via cloud storage.
  • Additionally, you will implement analytics hooks for key user actions and behavior tracking as well as build admin APIs for user moderation, reporting, and flagging systems.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining API performance, database health, error logs, and uptime metrics.
  • Collaboration with DevOps is required to set up CI/CD, monitoring, and auto-scaling backend infrastructure.
  • You must also manage environment configurations securely with secrets handling.
  • Finally, you will build fallback systems to handle network failures and retries.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years' experience in backend development with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB.
  • A strong understanding of token-based authentication and security practices.
  • Experience building scalable chat or messaging systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage and services.
  • A solid knowledge of CI/CD, monitoring, and application scaling.
  • Clear communication skills for technical documentation and collaboration.
