Middleware Infrastructure Specialist

This is a senior-level, technical role that requires expertise in mainframe systems and middleware administration. The ideal candidate will have experience with z/OS, Linux on IBM Z, and various middleware products such as WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM HTTP Server (IHS), and IBM MQ.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage persistent storage, networking, and OpenShift Service Mesh to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Automate deployments using Helm charts, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines to streamline the development process.
  • Monitor and optimize OpenShift cluster performance, scaling, and resource allocation to meet business demands.
  • Enforce best practices for WebSphere and OpenShift security hardening to prevent vulnerabilities and data breaches.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments, patch management, and compliance audits for middleware technologies to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Integrate middleware logging and monitoring with Splunk, ELK, and Grafana dashboards to provide real-time system visibility.
  • Diagnose and resolve middleware performance issues, application failures, and system crashes to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot OpenShift cluster issues, pod failures, and networking problems to ensure smooth operation.
  • Analyze logs from WebSphere, IHS, and MQ to identify root causes and implement fixes to improve system reliability.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience as a zLinux Middleware Administrator with a strong background in middleware technologies.
  • Expertise in installing, configuring, and managing OpenShift, WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM HTTP Server (IHS), and IBM MQ on IBM Z/Linux.
  • Experience in deploying and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes and OpenShift operators.
  • Knowledge of high availability (HA) clustering, load balancing, and JVM tuning for WebSphere applications.
  • Understanding of IBM MQ message flow, queue depth, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Ability to configure caching, compression, and load balancing in IHS for improved web performance.
  • Proficiency in using Splunk, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, or IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) for real-time system monitoring.
  • Understanding of SSL/TLS encryption, LDAP authentication, OAuth, and RBAC policies across middleware components.
  • Knowledge of secure IBM MQ configurations, including SSL encryption, authentication, and message signing.
  • Ability to set up WebSphere Network Deployment (ND) clusters for high availability and configure multi-instance queue managers and failover strategies for IBM MQ.
Preferred Experience:
  • Implementing OpenShift scaling policies for auto-scaling and redundancy.
  • Developing Ansible playbooks, Python scripts, and shell scripts to automate administration tasks.
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for WebSphere, OpenShift, and IBM MQ.
  • Providing 24/7 on-call support for production environments.
  • Collaborating with application developers, DevOps teams, network engineers, and security teams.
