Abdominal Specialist

Surgical Expertise:

1. Operative Management:
   

• Carry out advanced GI and abdominal surgical procedures, including complex elective and emergency cases.
• Perform laparoscopic and open techniques for various conditions, such as cancer, hernias, and digestive tract issues.
• Manage patients with GI bleeding, perforation, or obstruction through emergency surgery.

1. Clinical Care and Planning:
   

• Evaluate patients before surgery, assessing risks and obtaining necessary consents.
• Oversee post-operative care, monitoring for potential complications like leaks and infections.
• Collaborate with medical specialists to manage co-morbid conditions.

1. Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
   

• Work closely with departments like gastroenterology, oncology, hepatology, pathology, radiology, and critical care.
• Participate in tumor boards and surgical planning meetings to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Coordinate with healthcare professionals to optimize patient recovery.

1. Patient Education & Support:
   

• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, and surgical risks.
• Provide emotional support and clear communication throughout the surgical process.

1. Documentation & Compliance:
   

• Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, patient progress, and outcomes.
• Ensure adherence to hospital protocols and national standards for quality and safety.
• Contribute to clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.

1. Academic & Training Responsibilities (For Teaching Hospitals):
   

• Mentor medical students and residents in advanced GI surgery techniques.
• Participate in academic sessions, workshops, and research programs to stay updated on best practices.
• Publish research studies and contribute to the development of new surgical procedures.

Requirements:

1. Essential:
   

• MBBS + MS / DNB in General Surgery
• Fellowship in GI / Laparoscopic / HPB Surgery (recognized by IAGES / ASI / SGEI or international boards)

1. Desirable:
   

• Experience in laparoscopic and minimally invasive GI procedures
• Training in GI oncology or liver/pancreatic surgery
• BLS/ACLS certification for emergency readiness
