Site Reliability Engineer Position

A highly experienced Site Reliability Engineer is required to join our organization. This role will play a key part in defining and implementing an SRE strategy that promotes an 'Automate-first' culture.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reducing toil by developing methodologies and strategies for identifying toil-heavy processes and automating them.

  • Develop Engineering and Operational Service Metrics: Work with all parties to develop engineering and operational service metrics with actionable plans to improve operational efficiency, enhance service quality/SLA, and optimize delivery.
  • Implement Service Level Objectives (SLOs): Develop and implement Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for critical services, working closely with all parties involved.
  • Define Monitoring Strategy: Define a monitoring strategy with Engineering and implement appropriate capabilities.
  • Design Reliability Improvements: Design and implement reliability improvements to ensure the smooth operation of our systems.
  • Conduct Capacity Planning: Conduct capacity planning to ensure that our infrastructure can meet the demands placed upon it.
  • Perform Chaos Engineering Exercises: Perform chaos engineering exercises to test the resilience of our systems.
  • Lead Architectural Reviews: Lead architectural reviews for reliability, ensuring that our systems are designed with reliability in mind.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement from Incidents: Drive continuous improvement from incidents, using them as opportunities to learn and improve our processes.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Higher: A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Hands-on SRE Experience: Hands-on SRE practitioner with 5+ years working experience in SRE role.
  • Defining and Implementing SLOs: Practical experience defining and implementing SLOs and operating error budgets.
  • Cloud Platform Experience: Experience in a corporate software development lifecycle methodology, with some experience implementing GitOps a plus.
  • Technical Systems Knowledge: Demonstrates a strong understanding of how technical systems work and interact.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of all critical production support processes.
  • Cloud Platform Experience: 2+ years of experience with one/more public/private cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive Understanding of SRE Principles: Comprehensive understanding of SRE principles and ability to evangelise.
  • Modern Observability Tooling: Working knowledge of modern observability tooling, including OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and associated projects.
  • IaC Principles and Design: Experience of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and design.
  • Configuration Management Solutions: Extensive knowledge of Configuration Management Solutions such as Ansible, Chef or Puppet.
