Job Summary:

A collection manager oversees the accounts receivable process within an organization. Their primary role is to ensure timely collection of outstanding debts from customers or clients.

They work closely with the Accounting Department and collection agents to develop effective strategies for collecting outstanding debts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop debt recovery strategies.
  • Monitor accounts to identify overdue payments and determine actions to take.
  • Communicate with customers to negotiate payment plans and resolve issues or disputes.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing and payment-related inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate records of all collection activities, including customer interactions and payment arrangements.
  • Analyze delinquent accounts and prepare reports on the overall status of collections.
  • Implement credit policies and procedures to minimize the risk of late payments or non-payment.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel or external collection agencies as needed.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws and regulations related to debt collection practices.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A Chartered Accountant (CA) or Cost Accountant (CS) certification is a must.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field may be preferred, but not necessary.
  • Proven experience in accounts receivable management, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly as they relate to accounts receivable and collections.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to assess data and trends is essential.
  • Familiarity with collection software and tools is a plus.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail is crucial.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices is necessary.
  • Strong problem-solving skills are required.
