Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Principal Engineering Manager to lead our team in designing, delivering, and operating world-class cloud-scale systems that form the foundation of Microsoft's Azure platform. As part of the Azure Core Compute team, you will work at the forefront of Cloud Computing to drive innovation and excellence.

Azure Core is a high-growth business, and we pride ourselves on working without boundaries to deliver a cloud platform capable of running any customer application or workload. Our customers include large Microsoft services like Teams, Bing, Exchange, Xbox, SQL Azure, Office 365, HDInsight, and Cosmos DB, as well as major enterprises such as Accenture, Adobe, Walgreens, Walmart, Flipkart, and In-Mobi.

The successful candidate will help us achieve our vision to build and operate world-class E-E engineering systems and services that contribute to measurable improvements in customer experience and quality of the platform, while scaling with the growth and complexity of Azure Core systems.

This role focuses on building infrastructure to emulate Azure platform services, plug and play real and emulated services in a production-like environment, and validate quality of service (QoS) in high concurrency, high scale, and fault tolerance scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and operation of world-class services that validate, observe, and measure the quality of components in all layers of the Azure Core stack.
  • Set a vision, rally the team behind it, and deliver results for our customers.
  • Demonstrate coaching, modeling, and caring skills with engineers on your team, enabling them to learn, grow, and succeed.
  • Plan and prioritize work for your team, collaborating with partner organizations.
  • Create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-performing engineers.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine user requirements within and across teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, with 6+ years of technical engineering experience, including coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • 3+ years of experience managing teams, with a strong passion to model, coach, care, and make others successful, and build, deploy, and operate reliable systems.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including specialized security screenings.

Estimated Salary: $180,000 - $250,000 per year, based on location and experience.
