Job Summary

The primary goal of this role is to ensure the reliability and performance of mainframe storage infrastructure. To achieve this, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining mainframe storage subsystems to guarantee compatibility, performance, and reliability. This includes performing storage capacity planning and provisioning to meet current and future storage requirements. Additionally, you will configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Storage Subsystem Management: Install, configure, and maintain mainframe storage subsystems to ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Capacity Planning and Provisioning: Perform storage capacity planning and provisioning to meet current and future storage requirements.
  • Storage Management Software Configuration: Configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor storage performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and optimizing data placement.
  • Disaster Recovery and Data Replication: Implement and maintain disaster recovery and data replication solutions for Mainframe storage systems.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to support data backup and recovery operations and data migration projects.
  • Documentation and Training: Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards for storage administration tasks. Provide technical support and assistance to internal teams and end-users, troubleshooting and resolving storage-related issues.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in Mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
  • Skills: 8+ years of experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
  • Virtualization Experience: 8+ years of experience with storage virtualization technologies and concepts, including DASD, VTS, and SAN/NAS storage provisioning.
  • Networking Knowledge: 8+ years of experience with storage networking protocols and technologies, such as FICON, Fibre Channel, and SCSI.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Certification: IBM Certified Specialist - Storage Technical V2 or equivalent certification in Mainframe storage administration.
  • Virtualization Expertise: 5+ years of experience with Mainframe virtualization technologies such as z/VM and z/Linux.
  • DevOps Experience: 4+ years of experience utilizing DevOps practices and tools for Mainframe storage administration and automation.
