Key Responsibilities:

Teaching Music Skills:

  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Create music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Using Assistive Technologies: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Music for Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Student Progress Assessment: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to Individualised Education Programs.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with the school's positive behaviour support policies.
  • Enriching Student Experiences: Organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students' abilities.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Teacher Certification: Hold relevant teaching qualifications and certifications.
  • Special Needs Experience: Possess experience working with students who have special needs or disabilities.
  • Assistive Technology Skills: Be proficient in using assistive technologies and alternative communication methods.
  • Communication Skills: Develop strong communication skills to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Patience and Empathy: Demonstrate patience and empathy when working with students who may be challenged by learning difficulties or behavioural issues.
