Job Title: Software Quality Assurance Data Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Quality Assurance Data Engineer to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As a Data Quality Assurance Engineer II, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our data systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Support data analysts by providing prepped and clean data for efficient analysis.
  • Collaborate with teams to identify trends in data and contribute to data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop SQL views or queries for use by analysts or departments, promoting data access and analysis efficiency.
  • Provide feedback on usability and serviceability, tracing quality risks and reporting to relevant teams.
  • Test all aspects of the product/system, ensuring flawless performance.
  • Support reporting and analysis functions that enable data-driven decision-making, contributing to business goals.
  • Provide summary analyses in written and oral presentations, presenting insights clearly and compellingly.
  • Develop system test cases and document results, ensuring data system quality and reliability.
  • Research system issues and document findings, contributing to continuous data process improvement.
  • Work independently or with guidance as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Participate in evaluating and reviewing software requirements with developers and business analysts to define complete test plans and scenarios.
  • Ensure testing activities allow applications to meet business requirements and system goals, identifying and resolving issues.
  • Demonstrate expertise in data warehouse testing, integration, and system testing, contributing to data system accuracy and reliability.
  • Create clear and concise test summary reports and weekly status reports, offering valuable insights to relevant teams.

Requirements:

  • Equivalent experience in computer science engineering from an accredited university (desired).
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering (or equivalent experience) from an accredited university (preferred).
  • 4-8 years' experience in database management, generating medium to high complexity SQL queries for QA validation, debugging data issues, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle, MSSQL, Redshift databases, AWS S3, and SQL IDEs like SQL Developer/DB Visualizer/Toad.
  • 3-4 years' experience in extraction, transformation, and loading techniques (ETL) for data in multiple formats from multiple sources.
  • Proficiency in Python programming language, enabling efficient data manipulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure like AWS or Azure and respective cloud storage systems like AWS S3/Azure Blob.
  • Experience in development models like Agile or waterfall, ensuring successful project execution.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to analyze and understand ETL workflows, ensuring data process reliability and efficiency.
  • Strong SQL skills, enabling validation of business rules and identification of data issues.
  • Experience in backend validation of reports developed using tools like Tableau or POWER BI, ensuring accurate and reliable reporting.
  • Strong experience in data analytical testing and good understanding of the data model, contributing to data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and accountability.
  • Strong technical, problem-solving, project coordination, and analytical skills, ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Defect tracking till closure, ensuring timely resolution of any issues.
  • Ability to work on multiple releases and projects simultaneously and to work in different time zones if required.

Good to Have Skills:

  • Experience in Databricks and PySpark is an added advantage, expanding capabilities for data integration and analysis.
  • Experience in Power BI dashboard testing, ensuring accurate and reliable reporting.
  • Experience in Tricentis Tosca DI.
