Mathematical Model Evaluator

Role Overview:

We seek skilled researchers with strong mathematical backgrounds to assist in evaluating large language models (LLMs). Your work will focus on assessing the ability of LLMs to understand and solve complex math problems, such as multi-step algebra or logic questions.

Research Objectives

As a contributor to this research initiative, you may be asked to complete tasks such as determining the number of symmetric matrices of rank 2 with entries only 0 or 1, finding subsets of a 10-element set with characteristic vectors of Hamming weight exactly 3, or counting distinct 10-digit numbers where the sum of digits is divisible by 3.

These tasks are designed to identify model weaknesses and improve evaluation workflows.

Candidate Profile

  • A relevant academic background: Enrolled in or completed a PhD/Postdoc in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills: Ability to solve advanced math problems with clear reasoning.
  • Effective communication: Clarity in explaining complex topics and providing feedback.
  • Research independence: Ability to work independently in a remote environment and participate actively in team discussions.
  • Technical setup: Access to a reliable computer and internet setup for remote assignments.

Engagement Details

  • Time commitment: At least 4 hours per day and minimum 20 hours per week with 4 hours overlap with PST. (We have 3 options of time commitment: 20 hrs/week, 30 hrs/week, or 40 hrs/week)
  • Engagement type: Contractor assignment/freelancer (no medical/paid leave)
  • Duration of engagement: 1 month; expected start date is next week
  • Selection process: Task-based assessment for shortlisted candidates, followed by a contract offer with defined timelines and workload.
