Job Opportunity: Social Media Manager

 

The role of the Social Media Manager is pivotal in overseeing social storytelling and content distribution, while also being hands-on with daily posting and scheduling on various platforms.

This individual will be embedded with the content team, partnering seamlessly with editors and writers to enable the success of the newly-evolved teams. They will sit alongside editors, providing crucial support and guidance on story positioning for Facebook, Instagram, X, and other platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a proven history of growing social audiences, strong writing skills, visual storytelling abilities, and experience managing communities on social media. They must possess excellent organizational skills, focus, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to synthesize and communicate information quickly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapt and realise the global social strategy locally, based on market conditions and culture.
  • Manage day-to-day posting, editing, and optimization of content on multiple social media platforms.
  • Master the editorial voice and tone, selecting imagery, video, and visual content that engages audiences.
  • Execute best-in-class social storytelling, gathering assets from different teams.
  • Seamlessly integrate with Content/Edit and guide teams daily on story positioning.
  • Create and foster communities on social platforms.
  • Plan, design, and implement successful social strategies on cover reveals, tentpoles, and global/local stories.
  • Manage social swaps with internal brands, other teams, and external partners.
  • Report on content performance and present social insights and best practices to stakeholders.
  • Adjust social strategy according to KPI pacing and report on wins and losses.
  • Brainstorm new ideas and plan rollout strategies for testing with the audience development team.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of social media experience, preferably working for a digital publisher.
  • Expand our audience reach organically, skilled in using tools like Dash Hudson, Listen First, or Google Analytics.
  • Strong writing skills for captions, headlines, and visual storytelling.
  • Proven ability in visual storytelling that drives engagement.
  • Community management experience.
  • Excellent organisational skills, focus, and attention to detail.
  • An established ability to synthesise and communicate information quickly.
  • Must complete an edit test (writing samples are a plus).
  • Experience with video editing and asset creation.
  • Able to work outside standard working hours.
  • Experience in working on audience development strategies for video and audio.
  • Ability to clearly articulate and present to editorial colleagues and all levels of management.
  • Ability to navigate a complex matrixed business.
  • Entrepreneurial, digitally savvy, with exceptional analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
