Chief Climate Resilience Strategist

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of climate change and its impacts on ecosystems and human societies.

Job Responsibilities:

• Integrate adaptation priorities into national climate frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.
• Conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems to identify areas of high vulnerability and risk.
• Apply climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses, including the identification of cost-effective measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
• Develop and implement effective adaptation strategies that address the needs of vulnerable populations, including women, children, and marginalized communities.
• Evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources to support implementation.
• Support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting GCF, GEF, and other international mechanisms to leverage resources and build partnerships.
• Facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups to ensure that adaptation strategies are equitable and effective.
• Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans to ensure that climate action is integrated into broader development efforts.
• Contribute to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements to track progress and evaluate effectiveness.
• Draft technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public.
• Provide policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration, including the development of policies and guidelines to support climate action at the national and local levels.

Required Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective adaptation strategies.
• Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts, with a focus on building capacity and strengthening institutions.
• Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies, including the use of climate models and risk analytics to inform decision-making.
• Experience working with climate finance mechanisms, including GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs, to leverage resources and build partnerships.
• Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society, and the private sector.

Preferred Attributes:

• Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development, with a focus on building capacity and strengthening institutions.
• Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective adaptation strategies.
• Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches, with the ability to integrate these concepts into adaptation planning and decision-making.
• Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning, with a focus on addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
