Position Title: Manufacturing Operations Manager
Position Overview: The Manufacturing Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of manufacturing operations within the organization. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and operational expertise to ensure efficient and effective production processes while meeting quality standards, deadlines, and cost targets.
Job Objectives:
- Plans and manages the overall production activities of a plant ensuring compliance to global standards.
- Responsible for production schedules and performance indicators for measuring progress.
- Monitors daily operations to identify and resolve problem areas relating to staffing, scheduling, tooling, EHS, quality, and production line arrangement.
- Ensures monthly sales via manufacturing and maintaining OTD. Responsible for top-line via manufacturing and sales invoicing.
- Ensures and closely monitors project management and holds daily and weekly meetings to deliver projects on time.
- Responsible for various departments like production, production planning, in-house assembly, outsourcing assembly, electrical engineering, quality, in-house manufacturing, paint booth, packing, and dispatch.
- In charge of people development. Ensures shop-floor discipline. Adheres to all department KPIs.
- Provides technical expertise and leads technical discussions and provides technical solutions to customers during pre-sales and post-sales phases.
- Works closely with sales teams, customers, and internal engineering departments to understand customer requirements, propose technical solutions, and ensure successful implementation of products or services and leads the technical services group and provides timely guidance to the technical service team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develops and implements strategic plans to optimize manufacturing processes, improve productivity, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Production Management: Oversees the day-to-day manufacturing operations, including production scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow management to meet production targets and customer demands.
- Quality Assurance: Ensures adherence to quality standards and compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the manufacturing process. Implements quality control measures to minimize defects and ensure product quality.
- Cost Management: Monitors manufacturing costs, identifies areas for cost reduction, and implements cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or efficiency.
- Team Leadership: Provides leadership and direction to the manufacturing team, including hiring, training, and performance management, to foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities for process optimization, automation, and efficiency enhancements. Implements lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations and reduce waste.
- Vendor Management: Manages relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and components, negotiates contracts, and resolves any issues or disputes.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and maintains a safe working environment for all manufacturing personnel. Implements safety protocols, training programs, and risk mitigation measures.
- Collaboration: Collaborates with other departments such as engineering, procurement, sales, and logistics to coordinate activities and ensure alignment of manufacturing objectives with overall business goals.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) to track manufacturing performance, analyzes data, and generates regular reports for senior management to evaluate progress and make informed decisions.
- Responsible for the plant production and adherence to the timelines as per the KPIs and customer timelines.
- Provides strategic input to facilitate achievement of business results.
- Assesses external developments and develops risk mitigation strategies in the area of manufacturing.
- Leads the Safety Leadership Committee and develops the site Safety Flight Plan and monitors progress and clears any organizational barriers that may prevent achieving the goal of 100% safe. Establishes and enforces a safety environment with clear roles and responsibilities, and regularly monitors performance using Safety Reviews.
- Responsible for plant financial performance.
- Responsible to assure customer satisfaction needs are met - lead time, on-time delivery, quality of product.
- Responsible to assure proper manpower levels are in place to support demand. In charge of people satisfaction and development.
- Responsible for reducing costs through lean and 6 Sigma programs.
- Responsible for adhering to all the EHS standards including employee training, team communication.
- Responsible for all the departmental audits like ISO, QMS, etc.
- Responsible for team development, shop-floor workmen discipline, and getting timely approvals from the management.
Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates:
- BE in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience in manufacturing operation management. Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing process, equipment, and technologies
- Leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, drive change, and achieve results.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.
- Lean/6 Sigma certifications
- In-depth knowledge on production processes, machinery, and equipment used in manufacturing.
- Effective communication with shop-floor employees and cross-functional departments to coordinate production activities.
- Experience in working with companies having labor unions.
- 8+ years of experience in machine tool industries is preferred. Knowledge on carbide tool manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of quality standards and procedures to ensure products meet specifications.
- Knowledge on SAP
