Database Administrator Role">

Job Overview:

The Database Administrator will be responsible for creating, installing and managing databases to ensure optimal performance. This includes analyzing database issues and monitoring performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provisioning, maintaining and scaling critical data storage and intelligence platforms
  • Building, maintaining and scaling production services and server farms across multiple global data centers and public cloud providers
  • Contributing to the product architecture to improve our services' performance, operability, scalability, service reliability, capacity and observability
  • Collaborating with other team members to manage both production SQL-based and NoSQL databases
  • Managing mission-critical high transaction rate databases, including configuration, administration, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting and backup of traditional SQL databases (MySQL/Percona) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra/MongoDB)
  • Installing, configuring and upgrading nodes in high availability customer production clusters
  • Managing an international 24x7 multi-site production infrastructure powering our services, including deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning and security
  • Ensuring proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning and reporting in the production environment
  • Contribute to the evolving design and architecture of reliable and scalable infrastructure
  • Collaborating with product engineering teams to ensure Operations standards are observed, determine resource impacts for upcoming product deployments and ensure successful product rollouts
  • Developing processes, tools and documentation in support of production operations

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in designing, maintaining and administering NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB) required
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in designing, maintaining and administering traditional SQL-based databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona) required
  • Experience managing Kafka message bus infrastructures strongly preferred
  • Experience automating system & database management using common scripting languages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated track record of leveraging them to evangelize technical best practices with databases/data intelligence platforms
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
  • Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management and working in both public clouds and traditional colocation datacenters
  • Experience using Puppet, Ansible, Chef or analogous configuration management systems
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent experience required
