Key Responsibilities

Surgical Expertise:

  • Perform a wide range of general surgical procedures, including appendectomies, cholecystectomies, hernia repairs, and GI surgeries.
  • Specialize in breast and thyroid surgeries, as well as anorectal procedures such as hemorrhoidectomies and fistulectomies.
  • Develop expertise in trauma and emergency abdominal surgeries, utilizing laparoscopic/minimally invasive techniques when possible.
  • Ensure aseptic techniques and compliance with operating room protocols.
  • Supervise surgical residents and operating room staff during procedures.
Pre-Operative & Post-Operative Management
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and obtain informed consent.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and labs to inform surgical decisions.
  • Develop individualized surgical plans with risk stratification to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Manage pain control, wound care, and complication prevention post-surgery.
  • Coordinate with intensive care unit, anesthesiology, and other specialties for perioperative care.
Emergency Services
  • Respond promptly to trauma and acute abdominal cases in the emergency department.
  • Perform life-saving interventions, such as exploratory laparotomy and hemorrhage control.
  • Be available for on-call duties as per rotation schedule.
Academic & Teaching (If Applicable)
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and practical training for medical students and postgraduate trainees.
  • Supervise clinical postings, surgical case presentations, and ward rounds.
  • Guide residents in research, thesis work, and skills development.
  • Participate in departmental continuing medical education, conferences, and workshops.
Administrative & Quality Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive surgical records and notes.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, audits, and standard operating procedure development.
  • Ensure compliance with medico-legal protocols and documentation standards.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • MBBS + MS / DNB in General Surgery.
  • Valid registration with the State or National Medical Council.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Breast Surgery, etc.
  • Experience in trauma or emergency surgery.
  • Teaching experience (for academic institutions).

  • Proficiency in open and laparoscopic surgical techniques.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Teaching and mentorship abilities (if applicable).
