Job Title: Senior Building Structures Project Manager

Description:

This role plays a pivotal part in project delivery as part of a multidisciplinary team. Working under the guidance of a senior or project engineer, key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct feasibility studies and prepare reports that meet client requirements in agreed formats and review with the project lead.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop design specifications compliant with client expectations, agree on format and content, and oversee preparation ensuring timely completion.
  • Negotiate and monitor scope of works with the project stakeholders.
  • Delineate building requirements and purpose of use with the project stakeholders and design team to facilitate detailed design.
  • Deliver detailed design solutions to industry standards ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, QA, and technical review and sign off by the project lead, including complex calculations and coordination issues.
  • Review and oversee calculation production including QA, technical reviews and sign off.
  • Ensure project costing information is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the project stakeholders informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions.
  • Provide documentary information to assist in tender document preparation, ensuring relevant information is available on time for construction activity.
  • Coordinate project contracts documents (drawings and specifications) and review input from team members.
  • Handle day-to-day queries from the project stakeholders, ensuring relevant information is available on time for construction activity.
  • Report to the project stakeholders any variance between constructed works and design intent.
  • Project manage commissions using applicable project management tools.
  • Lead the design process, encouraging the team to deliver appropriate and cost-effective solutions to the agreed programme.
  • Follow document control, archiving processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued and filed appropriately.
  • Coach junior staff in these processes.
  • Raise technical competence within teams.
  • Implement delivery and quality measurement processes.
  • Promote technical excellence in all projects.
  • Contribute to concept design and provide feedback on protocols and processes.
  • Develop positive professional relationships with project stakeholders, communicating openly about project progress.
  • Participate in team meetings, disseminate information within the team, and communicate with other teams.
  • Identify and act on potential risk issues, following company commercial and contracting processes.
  • Manage delegated tasks to ensure deadlines are met and flag resourcing concerns to the team leader.
  • Flag additional fees and scope agreed to the project stakeholders.
  • Complete timesheets accurately ahead of weekly deadlines.

Key Competencies / Skills:
Mandatory Skills:

  • Proven experience in designing Building Structures with significant experience in a similar role or a good track record.
  • Good presentation skills required.
  • Fully conversant with technical structural software.
  • A sound understanding of Microsoft Office essential.
  • Fluent in English with an excellent understanding of technical terminology.

Desired Skills:

  • Good management, communication and technical skills with ability to work within a team and independently as dictated by workload.

Qualifications:

  • Ideal qualifications include British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent, degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and membership to an accredited engineering body.
