Fluence, the leading energy storage technology company, seeks a seasoned Senior Power Systems Engineer to drive innovation in grid-connected power converter systems and energy storage on the transmission system. This role is part of the Technology Team and focuses on developing cutting-edge Fluence Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) products.
Key Responsibilities- As a technical expert, lead team efforts designing Fluence's energy storage products for power system support, targeting utility and grid operator customers.
- Develop detailed product requirements, oversee system-level product design, and create test plans for power system support applications.
- Provide expertise in understanding power system stability issues and control schemes for grid-connected power system support.
- Lead evaluations of the interaction between BESS power converter systems and the utility/grid under various system events and operating conditions.
- Design and develop new products and features to enhance BESS capabilities for high-voltage power system support.
- A doctorate degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems and/or transmission systems, along with 10-15 years of work experience.
- Proven experience simulating and evaluating power converter systems, including knowledge of power system issues (FRT behavior) and interactions between power electronics and power system equipment.
- Extensive experience with 'grid forming' operation of inverters and using converters to support power grid stability.
- Proficiency in power system analysis and control simulation tools, such as PSSE, PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB Simulink, and PSLF.
- Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Fortran, C++, etc.
- Familiarity with utility grid interconnection standards, including European and UK grid codes, UL/IEEE standards, North American ISO/RTO requirements.
The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Additionally, Fluence offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
