Job Title: Strategic Chess Leader

Description:

Orchids is one of India's leading school networks with 100+ campuses across major cities and 75,000+ students. We combine strong academic rigor with arts, sports, and STEM. The role of the Strategic Chess Leader will involve architecting a nationwide chess program that uses chess not just as a sport but as a thinking literacy to boost problem-solving, metacognition, SEL, and joy across classrooms.

We already run a weekly chess period (Grades 1–8) with 25+ boards per school, a wall demo board, Digi Boards, and Lichess for interested student tournaments. Your mandate will be to upgrade this into a cohesive K-8 program that integrates chess with math, language, science, and SEL. This includes building teacher capacity so regular classroom teachers can facilitate chess-based thinking routines, using data-light, student-friendly metrics to evidence impact, and creating a vibrant culture through festivals, leagues, and community showcases.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in K-12 academics/sports/Enrichment with experience building multi-school programs. Demonstrated success in teacher training and curriculum design (preferably cross-curricular or thinking skills/SEL) is also required. A strong chess background is necessary, preferably with a rating or proven coaching/competition record. Comfort with edtech platforms and data dashboards is essential.

This role involves creating a Teacher training pathway, running an academic implementation Team, systematizing Lichess use, and establishing partnerships. You will also define process-focused metrics, add transfer probes, and deliver monthly reports. Finally, you will own the annual plan, calendar, staffing model, equipment audits, manage logistics for events, and safeguarding compliance.
