Animal Welfare Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Veterinary Officer to join our team. As a Veterinary Officer, you will be responsible for using your practical veterinary skills to alleviate animal suffering, tend to emergency cases, and improve animal welfare through counseling the local community under the guidance of a senior veterinarian.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in veterinary science and animal husbandry from a reputable veterinary institute, with a Master's degree in veterinary sciences being preferred. Recent veterinary graduates are also encouraged to apply.

You will be expected to schedule independent and team field visits, attend clinical cases, record treatments, and enter them into a database. Additionally, you will maintain and manage the stock of medicines, instruments, biomedical waste disposal, and handling and storage of veterinary equipment as per Standard Operating Procedure.

You will participate in regular clinical audits to ensure quality care and assist the senior veterinary officer with training animal welfare assistants on applied animal welfare, standards of animal management and care, first-aid, and minor treatment services.

You will also assist the senior veterinary officer with interacting with various stakeholders from the local community to improve their animal welfare practices and enhancing the skills of local external and junior veterinarians.

In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing the quality of major and minor treatment services available to animals through various local sources and helping the team employ effective and efficient community engagement to influence animal welfare.

You will act on behalf of the senior veterinary officer with respect to all day-to-day activities in his or her absence and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
