Backend Software Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain high-quality server-side applications and APIs. This role demands strong coding expertise, system design skills and experience in building scalable backend systems.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design secure, efficient and high-performance backend services & APIs
  • Implement server-side logic, databases and data storage solutions using Python, Java, Go or Rust
  • Optimize database schemas, queries and indexes for maximum efficiency
  • Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks by implementing caching and load balancing techniques
  • Ensure backend security against common threats such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting (XSS)
  • Collaborate with frontend, DevOps and product teams to achieve project goals
  • Mentor junior developers and promote coding best practices
  • Develop and run unit, integration and performance tests to ensure software quality
  • Monitor systems, troubleshoot issues and maintain uptime reliability

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Go or Rust programming languages
  • Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Redis
  • Expertise in RESTful and GraphQL API design principles
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure and GCP, as well as CI/CD pipelines
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures
  • Familiarity with message queuing systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ and Redis
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible
  • Exposure to web frameworks such as Django, Flask, Spring Boot and Go Micro
