Middleware Expertise

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in middleware technologies, specifically Kafka and RabbitMQ. A minimum of 7 years of experience is required, with at least 3 years dedicated to administering these systems in production environments.

A proven track record in monitoring, optimization, and incident resolution is essential. The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of the RabbitMQ and Kafka ecosystems, including brokers, connectors, zookeeper/KRaft, and schema registry.

Proficiency in monitoring tools and middleware performance metrics is also crucial. Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation abilities are necessary for this role, as well as experience supporting cross-functional teams and mentoring juniors.

Additionally, the candidate should have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science Engineering or a technical degree is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage RabbitMQ and Kafka clusters across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.
  • Configure brokers, exchanges, queues, topics, partitions, replication, and retention policies.
  • Monitor platform health using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka Manager, and RabbitMQ Management UI, and set up proactive alerting.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues, such as latency, stale messages, and downtime.
  • Implement access control, authentication, encryption, and RBAC/ACL policies.
  • Enforce data governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Optimize throughput, latency, and resource usage through fine-tuning broker and pipeline configurations, and plan for future scaling capacity.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting, IaC tools, and integrate platforms with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Design and maintain backup, restore, and failover strategies to achieve high availability across datacenters or cloud zones.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and data engineering teams to align middleware integration with business requirements.
  • Offer guidance, documentation, and knowledge transfer for messaging best practices.
  • Maintain clear records of architecture, configuration standards, incident logs, and operational procedures.

Required Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience in administering Kafka (Apache, Confluent, MSK) and RabbitMQ in production environments.
  • Proven track record in monitoring, optimization, and incident resolution.
  • Deep understanding of RabbitMQ and Kafka ecosystems.
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools and middleware performance metrics.
