Strategic Equity Researcher

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Analysis: Develop and update complex financial models with scenario analysis.
  • Valuation Strategies: Implement DCF, relative, SOTP, and other relevant valuation methods.
  • Accuracy in Assumptions: Establish accurate assumptions and valuations with clear rationale.
  • Investment Insights: Screen large datasets to identify investment opportunities and support portfolio managers in their investment decisions.
  • Discussion of Investment Ideas: Discuss investment ideas and stock updates with portfolio managers.
  • Earnings Reviews: Prepare earnings reviews, previews, attend conference calls, and management meetings.
  • Pitch Notes/Presentations: Develop pitch notes/presentations, industry, and thematic notes.
  • Database Management: Create and maintain databases.
  • News Analysis: Collect and analyze news.
  • Ad Hoc Research: Handle ad hoc research requests.

Maintaining Effective Communication:

Regular communication is required with clients and other stakeholders.

Essential Competencies:

  • Financial Modeling and Research Skills: Excellent financial modeling and research report-writing/presentation-making skills are essential.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to think through drivers and KPIs across a broad range of sectors.
  • Client Relationship Management: Good client relationship management skills and communication skills are necessary.
  • Attention to Detail: An eye for detail and ability to handle multiple workflows with tight deadlines.
  • Numerical Abilities: Numerical abilities are required.
  • Error-Free Models: Building complex, error-free models with well-defined revenue/cost driver assumptions.
  • Earnings Sensitivity Analysis: Carrying out earnings sensitivity analysis.
  • Valuation Views: Providing own valuation views after carrying out relative, DCF-based or industry-appropriate valuations.
  • Writing Skills: Writing skills, especially writing in a logical and structured manner that requires minimal rework.
  • Bulletins and Summaries: Writing bulletins and one-page summaries.
  • Macro/Industry Analysis: Linking macro/industry analysis to the output.
  • Presentations: Creating effective presentations.
  • Additional Tasks: Collecting news; summarizing and providing analysis that adds value; and preparing charts, tables, and databases.
