Job Summary:

As a Mainframe Storage System Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the availability, reliability, and performance of storage infrastructure. Your expertise in mainframe storage subsystems will help meet data storage and management needs effectively.

The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management. They should be proficient in storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.

  • Primary Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain mainframe storage subsystems to ensure compatibility, performance, and reliability.
  • Perform storage capacity planning and provisioning to meet current and future storage requirements.
  • Configure and manage storage management software and utilities to automate storage administration tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor storage performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and optimizing data placement.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery and data replication solutions for mainframe storage systems.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to support data backup and recovery operations and data migration projects.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and standards for storage administration tasks.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
  • 8+ years of experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IBM Certified Specialist - Storage Technical V2 or equivalent certification in mainframe storage administration.
  • 5+ years of experience with mainframe virtualization technologies such as z/VM and z/Linux.
Key Skills:
  • Storage Management: Experience with storage management software and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMSdss, and DFSMSrmm.
  • Mainframe Subsystems: Knowledge of mainframe storage subsystems, architecture, and management.
  • Disaster Recovery: Experience with implementing and maintaining disaster recovery and data replication solutions for mainframe storage systems.
