Music Teacher Position

Our institution seeks a skilled Music Teacher to support diverse learners and foster inclusive education. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing and implementing music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

The successful applicant will have training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices and experience with communication aids. A person with strong interpersonal skills, patience, creativity, and a positive attitude is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Design and implement music lessons that cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring inclusivity for all students.
  • Utilize Adaptive Techniques: Employ assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to facilitate student participation and engagement.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Foster music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation, promoting students' overall well-being.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities, enhancing the educational experience.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks, maintain accurate records, and contribute to Individualised Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment, managing behaviour sensitively in line with our school's positive behaviour support policies.
  • Enrichment and Events: Organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students' talents and abilities.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred).
  • Experience: 3 to 7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/Special school setting.
  • Teaching Qualification: Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred).
  • Special Needs Experience: Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred).
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education.
  • Instrumental Skills: Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing.
  • Linguistic Competence: Must know Light songs and Bhajans in Tamil.
  • Languages: Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory.
  • Training: Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices.
  • Communication Aids: Experience with communication aids.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Attitude: Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
