Aquaculture Development Specialist

This is a technical leadership position in aquaculture development, focusing on sustainable resource management and technology transfer for smallholder farmers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical guidance in aquaculture development, including pond management, seed and feed quality, hatchery operations, and fish health management.
  • Design and implement strategies to enhance productivity, profitability, and sustainability of aquaculture practices.
  • Support the formation and strengthening of community-based aquaculture groups and producer organizations.
  • Promote climate-smart and environmentally sustainable aquaculture practices to improve resilience.
  • Conduct training and capacity building activities for farmers and field staff.
  • Provide guidance on post-harvest handling and value addition to reduce losses.
  • Work closely with value chain experts to ensure an integrated approach.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and research institutions to strengthen technical support.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Zoology, or related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in aquaculture development or rural livelihood projects.
  • Strong expertise in smallholder aquaculture systems, sustainable farming practices, and resource management.
  • Experience in development projects is highly desirable.
  • Proven capacity in community mobilization, institutional development, and training.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills. Proficiency in English is essential.
