Head of Production: A Key Leadership Role
This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of an apparel manufacturing unit, ensuring that daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are consistently met with optimum quality, efficiency, and cost control. As a Head of Production, you will lead by example, demonstrating strong leadership, technical expertise, and a results-oriented approach in a high-volume garment manufacturing environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Production Planning and Target Achievement:
- Develop and implement strategies to drive daily, weekly, and monthly production target achievement in alignment with customer orders and business commitments.
- Maintain line-wise productivity and take prompt corrective measures to address shortfalls.
- Schedule production effectively to ensure optimal resource utilization.
- Operations Excellence:
- Oversight of end-to-end operations across production, quality, maintenance, and material flow ensures seamless workflow.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and other process improvement methods to enhance efficiency.
- Minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation across all production lines.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure all products meet defined quality standards (AQL, buyer specifications) through rigorous testing and inspection.
- Conduct regular in-line and end-line quality checks to prevent defects.
- Comply with statutory norms, safety protocols, and labor laws to maintain a safe working environment.
- Cost and Resource Management:
- Assist in budget control and waste reduction initiatives to improve cost efficiency.
- Optimize usage of manpower, machinery, and materials to minimize costs.
- Team Development and Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor production supervisors, quality leads, and support staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Monitor individual and team performance against agreed KPIs to foster accountability.
- Foster a culture of discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Reporting and Coordination:
- Prepare comprehensive production and performance reports to inform decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to meet delivery timelines and achieve business objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: B.Tech / B.E. (Textile / Garment Technology) or equivalent. Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing accepted for exceptional candidates.
- Experience: Minimum 15 years in apparel manufacturing with significant exposure to high-volume production.
- Proven experience in achieving daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing targets.
- Sound knowledge of garment manufacturing processes, sewing line balancing, fabric types, trims, and finishing.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and ISO quality systems is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results in tight timelines.
