Head of Production: A Key Leadership Role

This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of an apparel manufacturing unit, ensuring that daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are consistently met with optimum quality, efficiency, and cost control. As a Head of Production, you will lead by example, demonstrating strong leadership, technical expertise, and a results-oriented approach in a high-volume garment manufacturing environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Production Planning and Target Achievement:
    1. Develop and implement strategies to drive daily, weekly, and monthly production target achievement in alignment with customer orders and business commitments.
    2. Maintain line-wise productivity and take prompt corrective measures to address shortfalls.
    3. Schedule production effectively to ensure optimal resource utilization.
  2. Operations Excellence:
    1. Oversight of end-to-end operations across production, quality, maintenance, and material flow ensures seamless workflow.
    2. Implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and other process improvement methods to enhance efficiency.
    3. Minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation across all production lines.
  3. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    1. Ensure all products meet defined quality standards (AQL, buyer specifications) through rigorous testing and inspection.
    2. Conduct regular in-line and end-line quality checks to prevent defects.
    3. Comply with statutory norms, safety protocols, and labor laws to maintain a safe working environment.
  4. Cost and Resource Management:
    1. Assist in budget control and waste reduction initiatives to improve cost efficiency.
    2. Optimize usage of manpower, machinery, and materials to minimize costs.
  5. Team Development and Leadership:
    1. Supervise and mentor production supervisors, quality leads, and support staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
    2. Monitor individual and team performance against agreed KPIs to foster accountability.
    3. Foster a culture of discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  6. Reporting and Coordination:
    1. Prepare comprehensive production and performance reports to inform decision-making.
    2. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to meet delivery timelines and achieve business objectives.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: B.Tech / B.E. (Textile / Garment Technology) or equivalent. Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing accepted for exceptional candidates.
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years in apparel manufacturing with significant exposure to high-volume production.
  • Proven experience in achieving daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing targets.
  • Sound knowledge of garment manufacturing processes, sewing line balancing, fabric types, trims, and finishing.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and ISO quality systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results in tight timelines.
