Job Description

We collaborate closely with leading silicon vendors to enhance Ubuntu on their cutting-edge hardware.

As a software engineering leader, you will bring both technical and management expertise to drive your team's success. You will lead an engineering team responsible for optimizing Ubuntu across the entire Linux stack from kernel to GUI for top-tier silicon providers.

You will represent your team in direct partner engagement and ensure timely project milestones delivery.

As an engineering manager at Canonical, your primary focus is the growth and development of your team members. Ensuring they excel as engineers, deliver valuable work, and enjoy their job is paramount. As a leader for skilled engineers, strong technical leadership and a solid background in software development are essential to challenge and grow your team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a distributed team of engineers to design and implement optimal Ubuntu integration for latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks
  • Engage with commercial partners to deliver exceptional Ubuntu experiences on their platforms
  • Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, leading by example, and providing constructive feedback
  • Oversee commercial engagements and support timely project milestones delivery
  • Ensure adherence to rigorous quality and reliability standards
  • Collaborate with other teams at Canonical to align product architecture and roadmaps
  • Work remotely with occasional global travel up to twice a year for up to two weeks
Required Skills and Qualifications

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Experience working with Linux distributions, debian packaging, and high-performance server-class hardware
  • Proven ability to work directly with customers, resolve technical issues, interpret business challenges, and effectively communicate solutions that meet customer needs
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading teams of software engineers
  • Understanding of agile software development methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent university-level education) in a technology field
