Job Description:

This role entails the installation and configuration of Posit products including Workbench, Connect, and Package Manager. The ideal candidate will have expertise in setting up servers to meet system requirements for each product and ensuring access to necessary repositories.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation
    • Server Configuration
    • Verify that target servers meet system requirements for each Posit product (OS, CPU, RAM, disk space).
    • Evaluate server setup for accessibility and network traffic as required by each product.
  • Installation of Posit Workbench
    • Package Installation
    • Install R: Install version of R used. Multiple versions can be supported.
    • Install Python: Install version of Python used. Multiple versions can be supported.
    • Install Quarto: Install version of Quarto used. Multiple versions can be supported.
    • Install Workbench: Download and install Posit Workbench package for OS.
    • Configuration
    • Configure Workbench through configuration files (rserver.conf and rsession.conf), setting up users, session management, resource limits etc.
    • Launch
    • Start Service: Start Workbench service and ensure it runs on startup.
    • Verification
    • Access Workbench through web browser to verify installation is successful.
  • Installation of Posit Connect
    • Package Installation
    • Install Connect: Download and install Posit Connect package for OS.
    • Configuration
    • Edit connect.gcfg configuration file to set up server URL, authentication methods, email notifications and storage options.
    • Security Setup
    • Configure SSL certificates for secure HTTP connections.
    • Launch
    • Start Posit Connect service and ensure it runs on startup.
    • Verification
    • Publish content to Connect from RStudio (Posit Workbench) to confirm it is working as expected.
  • Installation of Posit Package Manager
    • Package Installation
    • Install Package Manager: Download and install Posit Package Manager package for OS.
    • Configuration
    • Set up CRAN, Bioconductor and custom package repositories in Package Manager configuration.
    • Security and Access Control
    • Set up access controls including user authentication and permissions.
    • Launch
    • Start Posit Package Manager service and ensure it runs on startup.
    • Verification
    • Access Package Manager through web browser configure client R environments to use Package Manager and install packages to verify setup.
  • Ongoing Maintenance
    • Update Management
    • Regularly apply updates and patches to Posit products and their dependencies.
    • Licencing Management
    • Monitor license usage and renew licenses as needed.
    • Support Services
    • Establish support plan either through internal teams or via Posit support.
