Job Title: Fashion Designer

Overview

Fashion designers conceptualize and create original clothing and accessory designs.

They bring their ideas to life through sketches, computer-aided design (CAD), and other visual tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create or visualize ideas and produce designs by hand or using CAD.
  • Develop moodboards to showcase designs to clients.
  • Stay updated on emerging fashion trends and general trends related to fabrics, colors, and shapes.
  • Plan and develop ranges based on themes.
  • Collaborate with the design team, buyers, and forecasters to develop products meeting a brief.
  • Liaise closely with sales, buying, and production teams to ensure items suit customers, markets, and price points.
  • Understand design from a technical perspective, including producing patterns and technical specifications for designs.
  • Source and select materials: visit trade shows and manufacturers to source, select, and buy fabrics, trims, fastenings, and embellishments.
  • Adapt existing designs for mass production.
