Job Title: Lead Design Engineer

This role is to work as a senior member of an engineering team, taking a leading role in project work. The focus will be on production and liaison with the team and mentoring junior members.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare feasibility study reports that meet brief requirements in an agreed format and review them with the Head of Structures.
  • Work with the team to assemble a design specification compliant with employer requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation to ensure timely delivery.
  • Agree and monitor the scope of works with the Head of Structures.
  • Determine building requirements and purpose of use with the Head of Structures and the team to allow detailed design.
  • Perform detailed design according to client requirements, adhering to standard codes, QA, and technical review, and obtain sign-off from the Head of Structures.
  • Review and monitor calculation production, including QA, technical reviews, and sign-offs.
  • Ensure that project costing information is completed in detail and to deadlines, and keep the team informed about design progress through explanations of design decisions.
  • Coordinate project contract documents (drawings and specifications) and review input from team members.
  • Lead the design process and encourage the rest of the team to deliver appropriate and cost-effective solutions within the agreed program.
  • Fully follow document control and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports, and correspondence are issued and filed appropriately, and coach junior staff in their usage.
  • Manage a team of Engineers and Revit Technicians.
