Building Design Specialist

Overview:

We are seeking a Building Design Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating and implementing building designs that meet the needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop building concepts and plans that meet client requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop 2D and 3D models using Revit and CAD software to visualize and communicate design ideas.
  • Lead seismic design efforts for new and existing structures, including peer reviews and checks.
  • Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize building design and reduce costs.
  • Manage interfaces between structural, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical services to ensure efficient and safe building operations.
  • Prepare detailed specifications, reports, and presentations to support design decisions and project progress.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance processes to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in building design and construction, preferably in the commercial sector.
  • Proven expertise in seismic analysis and design, as well as experience integrating structural designs with other building systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Revit and 2D/3D drafting/BIM systems, as well as proficiency in CAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of local building codes and regulations, including Australian standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and present design concepts.

Technical Competencies:

  • Structural design and detailing, including steel, concrete, and secondary/supporting systems.
  • Seismic design and detailing, with experience in lead seismic design efforts.
  • BIM coordination and clash resolution in Revit, as well as model federation and standards compliance.
  • Detailing of standard welded sections, platework, and connections for fabrication.
  • Interface management with mechanical equipment loads, supports, vibration, and maintenance clearances.
