Database Administrator Job Description

The Database Administrator will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining Progress databases within a UNIX environment.

This entails experience with Open Edge V11 (or higher) installation, upgradation, database creation, and maintenance.

The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with Progress OE features such as auditing, CDC, AI management, replication, PAS, and other related components. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Progress Database administration in a UNIX environment
  • Open Edge V11 (or higher) installation/upgradation, database creation, and maintenance
  • Progress OE features (OE Auditing, CDC, AI Management, Replication, PAS etc)
  • Database Administration, Monitoring, dump & load, and performance tuning
  • Progress Database backup and restoration strategy
  • Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy
  • Admin Server, NameServer, Appserver creation/configuration/maintenance & monitoring
  • OS shell/bash scripting
  • Basic progress 4GL knowledge
  • Progress Version Migration and OS migration
  • Progress Dump and load (sequential, parallel and multithreaded)
  • Type1 to Type2 data conversion and performance tuning

  • Experience with Progress databases in a UNIX environment
  • Strong understanding of Open Edge V11 (or higher) features and functionality
