About This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Architect to own the performance, availability and security of our databases across various platforms.

This individual will play a key role in designing scalable data architectures, ensuring high availability and supporting development teams with optimized queries and resilient data pipelines.

  • Maintain, monitor, and tune production and staging databases to ensure optimal performance.
  • Manage high availability, backups, restores, replication, and disaster recovery strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure uptime and performance SLAs are met across cloud and hybrid environments.

AWS Cloud Expertise:

  • Administer RDS, Aurora, and EC2-hosted database instances to ensure seamless operation.
  • Monitor database performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and third-party tools to identify areas for improvement.

Data Architecture & Design:

  • Work with engineering teams to model new schemas, optimize indexes, and review queries to improve database efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce best practices in database normalization, partitioning, and data lifecycle management to ensure data integrity.

Security & Compliance:

  • Ensure data encryption, access controls, and audit logging are in place and compliant with company policies to protect sensitive information.
  • Support GDPR/SOC 2/ISO 27001 initiatives with appropriate database controls and evidence collection to maintain regulatory compliance.

Collaboration & Mentoring:

  • Provide database guidance to developers and DevOps teams during code reviews and deployments to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Share knowledge, mentor junior DBAs, and improve documentation and internal tooling to promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years of DBA experience, including at least:
  • 5+ years with MSSQL Server (SQL Agent, SSIS, performance tuning)
  • 5+ years with PostgreSQL (query optimization, extensions, logical replication)
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS database services: RDS, Aurora, S3, and IAM integration
  • Solid understanding of SQL query optimization, execution plans, and troubleshooting slow queries
  • Proven track record of managing production-grade environments with strict uptime SLAs
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible
