Job Description

We are seeking a talented backend engineer to join our team and design, architect, and implement robust production-grade systems. The ideal candidate will enjoy thinking end-to-end about reliability and scale, shipping features that real users love, and owning critical backend systems that power core flows (vet bookings, petBNB, orders, payments, telemetry ingestion).

The selected individual will be responsible for building scalable REST/GraphQL APIs and microservices, data models and database schemas optimized for performance and operational simplicity, robust authentication, authorization, payments integrations, audit trails, and secure data handling.

They will also implement caching, queueing, and backpressure strategies to keep the system performant under load, ship observability and create runbooks for common operational scenarios.

This role requires collaboration with product, mobile, AI, and hardware teams to translate product requirements into reliable backend systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 2-4 years of experience in building production backend systems with Node.js (TypeScript) and frameworks like Express/Nest.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB: schema design, indexing, query optimization.
  • Practical knowledge of caching (Redis) and message queues (Kafka / RabbitMQ / SQS).
  • Cloud experience (GCP or AWS): deploying services, setting up infra, and managing costs.
  • Familiarity with Docker and basic orchestration concepts (Kubernetes experience is a plus).
  • Practical understanding of security best practices: tokens, encryption in transit/at rest, OWASP risks.
