Amazon is seeking a seasoned risk professional to lead the Travel and Expense Reimbursement Audit (TERA) team in Finance Operations. As Chief Risk Governance Officer, you will drive strategic risk management initiatives, ensuring Amazon's Finance Operations processes stay ahead of emerging risks.

This role requires a leader who can champion a culture of continuous inspection, identifying fraud and risks in process design, internal control effectiveness, computer system integration, and other areas. The ideal candidate will have outstanding process knowledge, data analysis skills, and customer obsession.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out the vision and mission of TERA to prevent, detect, and investigate potential fraud and financial abuse by employees within the company
  • Manage the lifecycle of a complex cross-functional risk program, focusing on building scalable fraud investigation capabilities to early detect fraud, abuse, and wastage in expense reimbursement processes
  • Lead a team of fraud investigators, driving operational efficiency to deliver qualitative results on cases flagged by fraud detection models within defined SLAs
  • Drive improvement projects to reduce investigator defects, idle time, and case investigation SLAs
  • Implement operational program controls through project planning, SOPs, process controls, prioritization, and coordination of workstreams as necessary
  • Maintain subject matter expertise and current industry knowledge to advise product leadership on emerging trends and their impact on the product roadmap
  • Identify control deficiencies, engage with internal teams to measure impact, design, and drive remediation, establishing mechanisms to refresh risk measurement and inform recalibration of risk tolerance
  • Earn trust with business and technical leadership by proactively engaging to understand product offerings and technical architecture
  • Set up mechanisms to track, review, and report key program metrics, identifying opportunities to improve program health
  • Deliver high-quality results with minimal guidance, influencing others to build consensus through mindful discussions that lead to crisp decisions and stakeholder alignment
  • Effectively onboard new team members, setting up robust launch plans
  • Balance goals across the team to optimize performance against department goals and employee development, applying performance standards to the team and identifying resource needs
  • Craft and deliver feedback to direct reports to help develop talent, grow individual functional skills, leadership capability, and support career development

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or postgraduate degree in finance, or a professional qualification like Chartered Accountant or Certified Fraud Examiner
  • Minimum 12+ years of relevant experience in internal audit, external audit, fraud investigation, or related fields
  • Experience in data analysis using Excel, QuickSight, or similar tools
  • Minimum 7+ years of team lead or team management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work experience in expense reimbursement audit, corporate cards fraud, employee investigations, conflict of interest, or any other forensic investigation
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Good leadership and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Good interpersonal skills, including persuasive written and oral communication skills
