Job Title: Database System Architect

The primary objective of this position is to ensure the optimal performance and availability of all database servers. This involves knowledge of advanced high-availability technologies such as failover clustering, SQL server AlwaysOn Groups, SQL server mirroring, SAN replication, and other similar solutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022, including production support activities, performance tuning and troubleshooting, SQL Server migration, and T-SQL scripts for administration and monitoring tasks.

  • Ensuring all database servers are backed up in a manner that meets business Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Testing backups to verify compliance with business Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
  • Troubleshooting SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
  • Configuring SQL Server monitoring tools to minimize false alarms
  • Choosing the appropriate technology for new systems, including clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, or other relevant solutions
  • Installing and configuring new SQL Servers
  • Deploying database change scripts provided by third-party vendors
  • Determining the most effective method to increase performance, including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query modifications
  • Documenting the organization's database environment
  • Monitoring database performance and stability
  • Establishing the baseline for system performance, recognizing deviation, and suggesting and implementing improvements to slow-running queries
  • Developing and documenting technical processes and procedures as needed
  • Collaborating with the engineering team to resolve issues
  • Providing project status updates as required

The successful candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision and independently determine and develop an approach to solutions.

This role also involves administering SQL Server, backup, integration, restore, reporting, and maintenance processes, diagnosing and analyzing using third-party diagnostic tools, SQL Server security configuration and management, working with the team on migrating older versions of SQL Server to newer versions if necessary, and administering and maintaining Azure SQL managed instance.

In addition, the candidate may be required to develop Power BI reports and create Business Requirement documents, KPI dimensions matrix, source to target mapping documents.

The ideal candidate will possess strong fundamentals of SQL, a deep understanding of SQL Architecture, Backup & Restore process, Configuring CDC replication, Configuring TDE in always-on servers, and excellent communication skills to clarify issues with customers.
