Senior Auditor for Not-for-Profit Entities

We seek a detail-oriented Senior Auditor with expertise in Not-for-Profit audits to lead our assurance team. This role involves managing complex engagements, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring exceptional quality standards in financial reporting and client service.

About the Role

The ideal candidate has 3–6 years of progressive experience in public accounting, focusing on charitable organizations, foundations, and other not-for-profit entities in Canada. Key responsibilities include leading audit engagements, developing detailed plans, executing fieldwork efficiently, supervising junior staff, identifying and analyzing accounting issues, preparing financial statements, and liaising with clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute comprehensive audits for not-for-profit clients according to Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) and Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO).
  • Develop tailored audit strategies and execute them effectively.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff; review their work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify and communicate complex accounting and auditing matters to clients and partners.
  • Ensure timely completion of audit engagements within established deadlines.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Liaise directly with client stakeholders, including finance teams and boards of directors.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 3–6 years of experience in public practice, with a strong focus on not-for-profit clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of ASNPO and CAS.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Caseware, TaxPrep, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
