Data Center Infrastructure Engineer

This role is with Amazon, an inclusive employer and a member of myGwork – the largest global platform for the LGBTQ+ business community. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team within its infrastructure operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience with network cabling, project management, and physical network infrastructure deployment and troubleshooting. They will work closely with the team to drive the stability and sustainability of our next-generation networks and develop innovative ways to automate and scale our network as we expand.
Key responsibilities include end-to-end ownership of structured cabling for the data hall, adhering to security and safety best practices, installation and testing of copper and Fiber Optic cabling, creating/attaching labels and barcodes, understanding of test equipment, basic build and troubleshooting of network devices, managing inventory of related materials, adhering to defined escalation processes and standard operating procedures.
The successful candidate will also be able to plan the cabling for new data halls by project managing the installation of fiber and copper connectivity, create and deploy new standards for network and infrastructure cabling installations, oversee the installation and deployment of all cabling infrastructure, ensure all projects are completed to schedule while ensuring the highest standards are met at all instances, provide training and mentoring to less experienced Engineers and Technicians, communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience, manage the provision of and performance to operational performance metrics, and participate in hiring, staffing and development strategies for the cluster and the region.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma/Graduation in a technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 4-8 years' experience with network cabling (fiber optic & copper)
- 3-5 years of project management experience or operations planning experience
- 2-4 years' experience with physical network infrastructure deployment and troubleshooting
- English language communication ability
- Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and network cabling
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment, displaying excellent time management skills and the ability to follow direction
- Able to work at heights or use ladders for continued periods
- Have strong attention to detail, maintain high quality standards
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Substantial background in large scale datacentre network implementations and support
- Knowledge of Copper and Fiber Optic testing methodologies
- Ability to read basic layout drawings and floorplans
- Industry standard certifications (CompTIA, CITY & GUILDS Cabling cert or equivalent)
- Previous experience working in a Data Center environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management)
