PostgreSQL Performance Expert

At our company, we're more than just a support team - we're passionate advocates for the PostgreSQL community. We're seeking a seasoned expert in PostgreSQL performance to join our elite team of database specialists.

As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for architecting, optimizing, and securing mission-critical databases for clients around the globe. Your expertise will be invaluable in tackling the most complex performance puzzles and mentoring junior engineers in best practices.

  • Own the toughest tickets: act as the final escalation point for critical incidents such as performance degradation, data corruption investigations, large-scale failovers, and advanced replication scenarios.
  • Design and automate: lead deployments of PostgreSQL in Kubernetes with Operators, crafting Helm charts, CRDs, and automation through Terraform or Ansible.
  • Tune and optimize: profile slow queries, balance workloads, and architect capacity planning to ensure seamless database operations.
  • High-availability guru: build and operate resilient clusters with Patroni, repmgr, streaming replication, synchronous replication, and DR strategies.
  • Monitoring and observability: architect end-to-end pipelines in Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, VictoriaMetrics, and integrate with ELK/EFK stacks for logs and traces.
  • Secure and compliant: implement encryption at rest (TDE, LUKS), TLS in transit, role-based access control, and audit logging to meet industry standards.
  • Mentor and evangelize: coach junior engineers in best practices - schema design, indexing strategies, partitioning, and PL/pgSQL development patterns.
  • Continuous improvement: contribute to internal knowledge bases, run 'lunch & learn' sessions, author runbooks, and refine our support playbooks.

Requirements:

Required:

  • 5+ years administering PostgreSQL in production at scale (v9.6–15+)
  • Deep expertise in Linux (RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu) and shell scripting (Bash, Python)
  • Proven track record with Kubernetes and PostgreSQL Operators
  • Mastery of performance tuning: query plans, WAL tuning, connection pooling (PgBouncer, Pgpool-II)
  • Hands-on with Prometheus/Grafana monitoring stacks
  • Excellent problem-solving, written/spoken English, and customer-facing skills

  • Experience with cloud-native services (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Background in backup/restore strategies (pgBackRest, Barman), PITR, and logical backup tooling
  • Working knowledge of NoSQL integrations (TimescaleDB, PostGIS, Citus)
  • Certifications: CKA, CKAD, or PostgreSQL Certified Professional
