Senior Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator to manage and optimize database systems across both cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in database technologies with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, and a strong grasp of high availability, replication, performance tuning, and automation.

  • Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and upgrading MySQL and PostgreSQL across cloud and on-premise environments, collaborating with development teams for schema design, SQL query optimization, and code reviews, managing data backups, restorations, and recovery strategies, diagnosing and resolving database performance issues and errors, applying security patches and version updates to maintain system integrity, administering and auditing database access control and user permissions, conducting database performance tuning and applying security best practices, defining and enforcing database standards and operational procedures, researching and recommending the adoption of emerging database technologies, designing and implementing monitoring and alerting systems for proactive management, developing and maintaining High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies, and automating routine database tasks and operational procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in database administration (cloud and on-premises).
  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis administration.
  • Hands-on experience with replication, clustering, and partitioning.
  • Proficient in managing cloud-based databases, especially on AWS.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Database Administration (DBA) is a plus.
  • Experience with Kafka, BI/reporting platforms, and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD for database operations.
