Senior Manager, Engineering Tools and Infrastructure

Calix is seeking a seasoned Senior Engineering Manager to lead the development of a world-class engineering environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing engineering tools and services teams, as well as hands-on experience with the Atlassian portfolio.

Responsibilities:
  1. Define, develop, and manage the next generation engineering tools environment, ensuring it meets the needs of a global product development team.
  2. Drive the evaluation and implementation of new tools and technologies, facilitating their adoption across the organization.
  3. Develop and articulate best practices for engineering tools, focusing on quality and productivity.
  4. Troubleshoot ad-hoc engineering, test, and release tools, and support triaging efforts related to code management and release.
  5. Document and communicate cross-functionally to drive adoption of new tools and processes.
  6. Implement a continuous improvement practice for engineering tools, ensuring they remain scalable, robust, and well-documented.
  7. Architect, develop, and lead the development of a next-generation CI/CD infrastructure, integrating automation test frameworks.
  8. Work with the automation test team to integrate test automation frameworks into the continuous integration test system.
  9. Create and share engineering analytics at various levels, including user, manager, director, and executive environments/tool reporting.
  10. Participate in engineering, test, system engineering, architecture, and management plan improvements.
  11. Develop and maintain internal tools, ensuring they adhere to high standards of security and quality.
  12. Document process workflows, FAQs, technical documentation, and provide training to various stakeholders.
  13. Manage the SCM team to support release operations and optimize build processes.

Requirements:
  1. 15+ years of experience leading engineering teams, with at least 10+ years of recent management experience managing engineering tools and services teams.
  2. Excellent hands-on experience with the Atlassian portfolio as an administrator for both Cloud and data center tools.
  3. Strong technical skills in C, C++, Python, PHP, Perl, Bash, MySQL, and SCM tools.
  4. Working knowledge of source code management, Makefiles, semantic versioning, and integrating software.
  5. 5+ years of experience in a SCM or DevOps role, with a proven track record of implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines.
  6. Proficient in Jira, Git, BitBucket, Bamboo, SVN, Clearcase, or other similar SCM tools.
  7. Advanced knowledge of the software development and release management lifecycle for a multi-product global company.
  8. Strong understanding of microservices, Cloud Infrastructure Management, and data center architecture.
  9. Strong quantitative and analytical aptitude, with excellent leadership, project management, influencing, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  10. Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with a demonstrable customer-service attitude.

Desired Skills:
  1. Master's degree in computer engineering or a related technical discipline.
  2. Experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC.
  3. Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under deadlines.
  4. Networking/Access experience.
  5. Proven ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  6. Deep understanding of distributed and service-oriented architectures.
  7. Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements and describe software product features and technical designs.
