Senior SQL Database Administrator Role

This senior-level role seeks a highly experienced and skilled professional to administer and maintain our SQL database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Configuration:
    • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting SQL 2005 – SQL 2022.
    • Installing service packs, cumulative updates, and hotfixes (GDR, QFE).
  • Patching Hierarchy:
    • Clear understanding of SQL Build numbers and Internal Database build numbers.
    • Ability to upgrade/migrate SQL Server from older versions (SQL 2005) to newer versions (till SQL 2022).
  • Database Administration:
    • Configuring linked servers between same/different SQL Server versions.
    • Setting up contained databases and utilizing them for effective migrations.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Configuring recovery models.
    • Designing backup strategies.
    • Fine-tuning backups using backup encryption, compression, and special parameters (like MAXTRANSFERSIZE, BUFFERCOUNT, BLOCKSIZE & CHECKSUM).
  • Corruption Handling:
    • Experience in handling Master, Model, MSDB, TEMPDB, and Resource database corruptions.
  • HADR and Cluster:
    • Knowledge of HADR like Log Shipping, Mirroring, Clustering, Always-On AG & Replication.
    • Hands-on knowledge on Windows Cluster, Quorum, Dynamic Quorum, Voting Mechanism, Failovers through Cluster Administrator and commands.
  • Always-On AG Scenarios:
    • Configuring Always-On AG on standalone instances across Windows Cluster in Synchronous mode and Asynchronous mode.
    • Handling advanced Always-On AG scenarios like failover, adding new data/log files, understanding of Lease Timeout, Health check timeout, and Failure Condition Level parameters, configuring Read-Only Routing, listeners, and backup configurations.

Mandatory Leaf Skills:

  • Strong Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge on SQL Server Architecture, parameters, T-SQL, Triggers, and Procedures.
  • HA/ DR Solutions:
    • Administration and configuration of HA/ DR solutions – Clustering, Always-ON Group etc.
  • Replication Management:
    • Configuring and managing all types of replications and troubleshooting.
  • Patch Management:
    • Experienced in patch management.
  • Server Capacity Monitoring:
    • Monitoring, analysis, and tuning activities to ensure server capacity.
  • Automation:
    • Automation using scripts and tools in the area of Backup, Monitoring, Resource Utilization, HA alerts, capacity plan management.
  • SQL Server Tuning:
    • Expertise in SQL Server tuning.
