Job Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned medical coding professional to contribute their expertise to our organization. As a medical coder, you will be responsible for accurately assigning codes to medical procedures and diagnoses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes to diagnoses and procedures with precision and accuracy.
  • Maintain adherence to government and insurance regulations by ensuring codes are accurate and properly sequenced.
  • Communicate effectively with providers regarding documentation that is incomplete or unclear.
  • Collaborate with other clinical staff to ensure documentation meets established standards.
  • Conduct thorough research in complex or unusual coding cases.
  • Review patient charts and documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assess previous day's batch of patient notes for evaluation and coding purposes.
  • Ensure all codes are current and active, reflecting the latest developments in medical coding.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience as a medical coder.
  • Medical coding certification, such as CPC, or successful completion of a related program.
  • Bachelor's degree with a pre-health career track preferred.
  • Strong administrative writing skills.
  • Effective reporting skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping practices.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and organization.
  • Typing proficiency.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Expertise in ICD-X codes and CPT Procedures.
  • Proficiency in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs.
