Job Title: Engineering Director

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the complete app development lifecycle for both iOS and Android platforms, from ideation to deployment and beyond.
  • Architect, design, and implement the core features of the Verona app with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and security.
  • Ensure the mobile app is responsive, reliable, and provides a seamless user experience across multiple devices and platforms.
  • Design and implement app architecture using modern mobile frameworks such as React Native, Flutter, or native iOS/Android development frameworks.
  • Lead the backend architecture to support the app, ensuring smooth API integration and effective data management using Node.js, Python, and microservices.
  • Implement secure and efficient cloud infrastructure, with experience in AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure to support mobile app scalability.
  • Drive continuous app performance improvements (load times, memory optimization, latency reduction) to enhance user experience.
  • Implement real-time monitoring and feedback loops to detect and resolve performance bottlenecks quickly.
  • Work closely with the product and UX/UI teams to incorporate user feedback and deliver features that improve engagement and retention.
  • Lead the design and development of RESTful APIs and GraphQL for mobile app functionalities.
  • Ensure that the backend architecture scales to handle large volumes of app traffic with minimal latency.
  • Ensure secure data handling and management, with robust practices for authentication, authorization, and encryption.
  • Utilize Kubernetes for managing and deploying containerized services, ensuring scalable and resilient app performance.
  • Lead the adoption of serverless computing for optimizing backend resources and app performance.
  • Manage and mentor the engineering team working on the mobile app, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with product managers, designers, and data teams to align app development with business goals.
  • Define clear project timelines, milestones, and KPIs to ensure timely delivery of app features and updates.
  • Implement security best practices for mobile app development, including secure authentication mechanisms, data encryption, and compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Perform regular security audits and ensure the app adheres to industry standards and regulations.
  • Constantly evaluate and integrate new technologies to keep the app at the forefront of innovation in mobile development.
  • Drive efforts to integrate AI-driven features, real-time updates, and push notifications to enhance user engagement.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in mobile app development (iOS and Android), using frameworks such as React Native, Flutter, or native mobile development.
  • Expertise in backend development (Node.js, Python, or similar) and API design (REST, GraphQL).
  • Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and cloud infrastructure management (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and mobile-specific DevOps practices.
  • Proficient in mobile app performance optimization, database management (SQL/NoSQL), and cloud-native architectures.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, preferably from a Tier 1 institution (IITs, NITs, or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading the development of mobile applications (iOS and Android) at scale.
  • Strong technical background in app architecture, cloud infrastructure, and modern development frameworks.
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience building and managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a tech startup.
  • Strong knowledge of user-centered design principles and experience in creating consumer-facing applications.
  • Familiarity with data security, privacy regulations, and best practices in mobile app development.
