Job Title: Senior Railway Track Design Engineer

The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing railway track design projects, managing the project lifecycle through various stages, and developing comprehensive ballasted and non-ballasted track structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • A key role in leading railroad track design initiatives
  • Strategic management of the project lifecycle through conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases
  • Design development of ballasted and non-ballasted track structures, track alignment, profile, and associated grading plus drainage
  • Evaluation of rail vehicle/infrastructure clearances
  • Prior review of the track design and associated reports before submission
  • Collaboration with other disciplines to ensure all work is completed to a high standard and with consistency
  • Preparation of technical documents, including design briefs, technical reports, and construction bid/tender documents
  • Calculation of quantities, preparation of cost estimates, project specifications and construction bid/tender documents
  • Provide technical guidance to junior designers and oversee their work
  • Collaboration with Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate minimum capabilities related to horizontal and vertical alignment design and reporting
  • Understanding of turnout design – both simple and complex design solutions
  • Clearance assessments for greenfield and brownfield
  • Knowledge of track componentry and track fixing types
  • Awareness of maintenance principles
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Able to plan own work to meet project deadlines and deliverables
  • Able to communicate effectively with managers and other engineers in all disciplines

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of MicroStation / AutoCAD/ Open Rail Designer
  • Proficient in MS office
  • Working knowledge of gauging clearance assessment
  • Working Knowledge of ProjectWise or Similar software for handling designs

Qualifications:

  • Civil Engineering degree
  • Working towards, or willing to work towards, Chartership
  • 7-10 years experience of rail infrastructure/engineering environment
