Backend Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team as a Backend Engineer. This individual will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs and microservices using NodeJS and Python.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in backend technologies, including NodeJS, Python, and modern frameworks such as Express.js and FastAPI. They should also have hands-on experience with DevOps tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

This is an individual contributor role in an early-stage funded startup, requiring high ownership, problem-solving capabilities, and a proactive mindset to build the backbone of our smart farm management platform.

In addition, the candidate should have a solid understanding of cloud services, including AWS, GCP, and Azure, as well as database systems, including SQL and NoSQL databases.

The selected candidate will be responsible for architecting multi-tenant SaaS systems with proper data isolation and tenant management, implementing GraphQL and RESTful APIs with focus on performance and reliability, and building data processing pipelines and real-time systems for agricultural applications.

The role also involves setting up and managing cloud infrastructure and deployment automation, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and monitoring systems, driving infrastructure decisions that enable rapid iteration while maintaining system reliability, designing and optimizing database schemas for complex agricultural data, implementing multi-tenant data architecture with proper tenant isolation and security, building integrations with IoT devices, external APIs, and third-party services, and implementing data validation, processing pipelines, and API development for frontend consumption.

The ideal candidate will also leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate development workflows, use AI tools for code review, documentation generation, and optimization, stay current with AI development tools and advocate for their adoption across the team, implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices, design tenant-aware security models and access control systems, optimize application performance for real-time systems and rural connectivity challenges, and build resilient systems with proper error handling and recovery mechanisms.
