We are seeking a skilled professional to assume the role of Freelance PostgreSQL Database Administrator.

This is a remote, long-term contract position that requires expertise in database architecture, high availability, and optimization in enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL (MySQL), and advanced SQL performance tuning. Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems for database administration is also essential.

In this role, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining PostgreSQL and Cloud SQL (MySQL) databases. You will also perform advanced SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and schema design.

Additionally, you will manage database upgrades, migrations, patching, and version control. Implementing and monitoring replication, clustering, and failover solutions for high availability is also a key responsibility.

Other duties include ensuring database security, compliance, integrity, and backup/recovery strategies. You will collaborate with development teams to optimize SQL queries and improve database architecture.

Troubleshooting and resolving database issues, providing on-call support for critical systems, are also part of the job.

A strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skillset is required. Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries is also necessary.

If you have experience migrating from SQL to PostgreSQL, knowledge of database monitoring tools and observability solutions would be an asset.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience with PostgreSQL
  • Strong expertise with Cloud SQL (MySQL) and advanced SQL performance tuning
  • Solid background in Oracle DBA (RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, performance tuning)
  • Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems for database administration
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills

  • Experience migrating from SQL to PostgreSQL
