Import Ocean Freight Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the import ocean freight operations, ensuring seamless coordination of FCL, LCL, and consolidation processes.
  • Develop and execute pricing strategies, negotiate rates with carriers, and foster strong relationships with shipping lines, co-loaders, and overseas agents.
  • Coordinate pre-alerts, booking documentation, customs compliance, and end-to-end import shipment handling to ensure timely cargo clearance and delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (sales, documentation, customer service, and finance) to facilitate efficient cargo clearance and delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to local and international import regulations, customs laws, and trade compliance requirements.
  • Establish and implement SOPs to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time for import processes.
  • Lead and mentor the import operations team – allocate resources, set KPIs, monitor performance, and provide ongoing training.
  • Monitor departmental profitability, ensure cost control, and prepare regular budgets.
  • Partner with the sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and grow the import customer base.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service, promptly resolving issues and ensuring consistent client satisfaction.
  • Generate regular management information reports for senior management on import operations, cost efficiency, and process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience:

Strong knowledge of international import practices, customs clearance procedures, documentation, and INCOTERMS.

Excellent leadership and people management abilities.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
