Job Summary
The Business Risk and Control Sr Group Manager oversees the management of multiple teams through other managers, ensuring a thorough understanding of their sub-function's contribution to achieving functional objectives. A good understanding of the industry, competitors' products, and services is necessary to contribute to commercial objectives. The role requires a solid understanding of the functional strategy and its implementation, as well as excellent communication skills to negotiate at a senior level.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the lead of governance and the facilitation of the Manager Control Assessment (MCA) as required by the MCA Standard, including the assessment and approval of risks associated with business changes.
- Review and provide governance over the implementation of the Control Framework, including the Risk Control Policy, Control Standard, Issue Management Policy, Lesson Learned Policy, and Control Inventory.
- Manage and report on the identification of issue root cause, partnering with control and process owners to recommend holistic corrective actions and improvements.
- Oversee the Lessons Learned Policy, including the monitoring of control breaches and the dissemination of learnings across business units for process improvement.
- Review and challenge the design and management of controls to mitigate risks as required by the Control Standards.
- Oversee the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of the MCA through controls prior to and after process execution.
- Provide governance over Operational and Compliance Risk in accordance with established Policy requirements.
- Manage implementation within teams to identify, assess, escalate, and manage risk exposures across Risk Categories, including material, emerging, and concentration risks.
- Manage and report on Risk Appetite and monitor exposures against this in accordance with enterprise requirements.
- Oversee the process to identify, assess, record, and respond to Operational and Compliance Risk events.
- Determine approaches to ensure adequate governance and training are in place to support risk management.
- Assure the risks associated with New Activities and changes to the Business are well understood and adequately controlled.
- Support operational risk scenario analysis and stress testing for Operational Risk Capital requirements.
- Manage risk and control assessments or coordination for programs within various risk stripes and ensure sufficient subject matter expertise exists to enable risk management.
- Oversee that risk and control responsibilities and accountabilities are embedded within CTU, including providing training and leading by example.
- Manage the implementation of standards and procedures that conform to enterprise requirements and support sound operational and compliance risk management.
- Apply knowledge of the business, products, or services to identify and implement control points and processes throughout the business.
- Assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets.
Qualifications
- 20+ years of experience, including 14+ years of managerial experience.
- Experience managing teams with broad accountability in a complex environment.
- Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally and externally.
- Management of global operations in a complex environment.
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership with strong results orientation.
- Demonstrated understanding of operational risk and gap identification.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
Education
- Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
